CLEVER MONKEY OF THE WEEK

Our vote for Clever Monkey of the Week goes to Nouri al-Malaki for offering an olive branch to insurgents by releasing approximately 700 of them from jail.

While many of the insurgents dutifully stated that they would head home and conduct themselves in an exemplary manner, others took a page from Iran’s book of duplicitous diplomacy and demanded the return of their machine guns and roadside bombs, while making protestations that they only wanted them for peaceful purposes.

The prime minister, with commendable cleverness, freed them but declined their explosive request.
