CLEVER MONKEY OF THE MONTH

Gerald Ford
For Becoming Vice President And President Without
The Inconvenience Of An Election

There are clever Americans and there are clever ones who get to be the President.

Take Gerald Ford. Here’s a man who was clever enough to get elected to Congress and spend 24 years there, toiling away without much of a presidential prospect. Then, when Nixon’s VP, Spiro Agnew, got tossed for tax evasion, Nixon named Gerald to replace him.

Then Nixon got nixed for Watergate – and Ford became the President.

Well, Gerald did say, “The harder you work, the luckier you are.”

Even better, when he was in office, the proverbial joke was, “He’s so dumb he can’t walk and chew gum at the same time.” And, when he pardoned Nick Dixon, his hopes for actually being elected President went the way of Tricky Dicky.

But now that he has passed into history, he is being haled as a great President who healed the nation by pardoning Nixon – a soft-spoken man who was there just when the nation needed him.

By all accounts, he was a good guy, and a good guy in power is rare enough.

While he was not elected President when he ran for the office, he gets to be elected our clever monkey of the month.
