Imus Returns; Attempts To Become Wemus

Don Imus has returned to radio, with the heartfelt intention of becoming Wemus. On what do we base the supposition? His new cast members include a black woman, Iarith Foster, and a black man, Tony Powell.

Their role will be to keep Imus racially correct. Or, as the press kit says, they will help him conduct “an ongoing discussion about race relations in this country.”

It’s a good thing they’re both comedians.

To justify his return, Imus told an audience at Town Hall in Manhattan and on WABC-AM, the radio station that has redeemed him, “I will never say anything in my lifetime that will make any of these young women at Rutgers regret or feel foolish that they accepted my apology and forgave me. And no one else will say anything on my program that will make anyone think I did not deserve a second chance.”

He went on to prove his point by saying, “Dick Cheney is still a war criminal” and “Hillary Clinton is still Satan.”

Then, referring to his new contract with Citadel Radio, the parent of WABC, he presaged the difficulty he may have becoming WEMUS, saying, “We signed for five years. That’s how long it’s going to take to get even with everybody.”
