DOLLARS AND NONSENSE

SHOULD NATURE CHARGE FOR SUNLIGHT?

In these economically obsessive times, there is increasing talk in executive circles that nature has been entirely irresponsible in the way it has passed out sunlight free of charge from one unprofitable fiscal year to the next.

The executives feel that this persistent profligacy sets a bad example and that the adoption of a more fiscally responsible approach to sunlight is overdue.

“After all,” a leading advocate of the movement reasons, “sunlight is a form of energy, and to let it go out from the sun free of charge just doesn’t make good business sense.”

Of course, the businessmen face a difficult time getting their suggestion heard, since they have yet to make contact with a credible spokesperson in regard to Mother Nature’s laissez-faire energy policy.

Should one consent to appear, the executives hope to hold forthright discussions about fiscal sunlight restraint.  If successful, they also hope to address the equally thorny economic issue of free air.

A spokesman for the executives stated, “We managed to bring some fiscal responsibility to water.  If you want purity you can count on, you have to buy it.  We see no reason that we can’t hope for the same kind of progress when it comes to sunlight and, eventually, to air.”
