Toyota Issues Recall. GM Execs Celebrate

Toyota Motor Company announced that it is recalling over 400,000 vehicles to remedy a problem with the steering mechanism. While the defect is unlikely to cause the driver to lose control of the car, the company decided to take the unaccustomed step, primarily as a precaution in regard to the cost of its liability insurance.

Upon hearing the news, GM executives, who generally find themselves in the regrettable role of initiating a recall, while the Japanese look on with a smug air of superiority, broke open the bubbly.

As the festivities enlivened the corporate corridors, a GE executive proclaimed, “This is the greatest day for the American automobile industry in fifty years. You know Toyota. They always play the quality card. But at last we have evidence that Japanese cars aren’t absolutely perfect. So there’s renewed hope we can compete.”
