WHAT'S ENTERTAINMENT
Anybody seen or heard any lately?
Even this year’s Oscars were a largely a gussied-up celebration of form without content. It has become increasingly evident that it is difficult to present awards credibly to adults for achievements that all too often must be described as either infantile or moronical.
But stay alert. One never knows when to expect an intimation of excellence.
Along similar lines, if the sale of new CD’s continues to decline, it is rumored that key music industry executives may decide that the attractive packaging of youngsters, hooting songs intended to be sold exclusively to other youngsters, may have run its course and that the future of the popular music business may well lie in the rediscovery of the now destitute talents who can actually create good songs.
There is also some outrageous talk that the audience for new songs may actually be much bigger than the gradually contracted but currently accepted age range of susceptible buyers as eight to eleven years old.
Stay tuned. Nothing inspires radical rethinking like a continuing decline in sales.
