LAW AND DISORDER
Despite wide press coverage, the trial of Enron executives seems to have stirred little interest among the general public.
As one viewer said, “Every time I hear the name Ken Lay, I feel like I just want to lay down and go to sleep.”
Network executives, surprised by the low ratings the trial is garnering, are threatening to cancel the trial.
An NBC programming executive stirred controversy in legal circles when he stated, “Let’s face it. A trial is only as good as its ratings.”
The judge in the case objected heatedly. “I don’t mind having cameras in the courtroom,” he said, “I got used to them a long time ago. Actually, I'm very comfortable with them. The thing that goes against my grain is when they threaten to remove them.”
