Shredded Flag Found On Car Antenna; Patriot Arrested

While the Senate continued to debate an amendment to the Constitution that would prohibit desecration of the flag, there appeared to be some difficulty writing the law so that unlikely people don’t end up in jail.

For instance, just last week a traffic cop spotted a car with an American flag flying from the antenna. He noted that the edges of it were frayed and sped out after the offender.

“You’re under arrest for desecration of the flag,” he told the miscreant driver.

“What desecration?” the driver asked, offended. “I’m flying Old Glory because I believe in it.”

“But you’ve allowed the wind to rip the edge of it to shreds, and that’s a violation of the Constitution.”

“Oh,” said the man, reaching into his pocket, “then maybe you should arrest the wind.”

“I would if I could,” the officer said, unfurling a set of handcuffs. “Meanwhile, you’ll have to do.”

“Will I?” the driver asked, taking out his wallet and showing the driver some ID. “By the way, I’m General George Casey, the commander of the U. S. forces in Iraq, just home for a short break.”
