SHREDITORIAL

Surprise At Trial Of Saddam Hussein; Everybody Murdered Still Alive

The trial of Saddam Hussein took a surprising turn, when a witness stated that he had seen and talked with a number of the people the jocund dictator and his unrepentant henchmen are accused of killing during a crackdown in the rebellious village of Dujail.

The admission brought laughter of relief to the usually fretted face of Mr. Hussein and his cohorts, but not to the judge, who has been accused of fabricating the case.

Since trials tend to proceed a certain way, it is now up to the prosecution to show that the unexpected witness is not telling the truth. Of course, it is up to the prosecution to show that he is. And it is undoubtedly up to the judge to hear both sides, while it is up to Saddam and his cronies to rattle the proceedings so they can reduce the entire thing to as much of a hoax as they can.

It is very likely, however, that justice will be served and that Mr. Hussein and company are having their hearty laughs on their way down Gallows Lane.
