George W As George Washington, Finally Crosses The Tigris
A couple of months ago, we ran a lead story that encouraged George W to make like George Washington and cross the Tigris. Somebody on the President’s staff finally caught on – and George was launched Baghdad-ward.
It’s about time.
The Pres owes the American commitment and sacrifice getting his ship of state over there and doing his utmost to achieve the goals that 2,500 of our boys have given their lives for.
We just don’t know why he came back so fast. (See this week's cover story for a suggested alternative.)
He’s better off over there, with a hands-on role until peace and prosperity are at least somewhat in hand.
We even bet his continued presence might actually be the most effective way for him to improve his ratings at home.
Of course, you’d think he or his advisors would figure out that if just a few hours over there is a political bonanza, how much more so an extended stay would be.
But would such an ongoing presence diminish? Our take is, you don’t step down when you step in to get a vital job done. You step right up.
So, come on, George. The Tigris is today’s Delaware. Cross it again and don’t come back until victory is in hand.
Then you can return a hero, along with the rest of our returning heroes.
Oh, in the meantime, what will we do without him in Washington? I suppose we'll get along, somehow.
