WHAT THE TECH

NEW VIDEO GAME FEATURES CHARITABLE COMBAT.

In a world that seems bent on early training for children in murder and mayhem, a new video game takes an unprecedented and inviting turn.

Called Charitable Combat, it offers young people the whiz-bang opportunity to do battle against three of humanity’s most daunting enemies – hunger, disease, and ignorance.

Here’s how the revolutionary bauble works.  Young idealists strike out to help people suffering from this trio of dread enemies.  The goal is to help as many people as possible overcome them without starving, contracting a disease, or forgetting their education and, to inject a bit of the obligatory death-oriented excitement our culture seems to crave, gamers must also evade getting killed by the revolutionaries who prey on the impoverished inhabitants.

While the game has yet to fly off the shelves, the manufacturer has vowed to keep it in distribution even if only for educational and guilt-ridden reasons.  As a spokesman for the laudable company states, “If we can even get one kid to attack our real enemies, we’ll be glad we threw our social conscience a bone.”
