NASA To Launch Discovery Despite Objections By Slow-Flying Birds
When two NASA officials voted to delay the new launch of the space shuttle Discovery due to the persistent problem posed by the possible fragmentation of its foam insulation panels on the fuel tanks, they got unexpected help from thousands of birds that squawked their own objections.
The birds, mostly made up of slow-flying varieties, are apparently incensed by the repeated intrusion into what they regard as their own rightful airspace by the rapidly rising projectile.
When queried about the avian objections, a NASA official said, “While we understand the plight of the birds, we can’t slow down the speed of the craft, so we recommend that they either ground themselves for the day or learn to fly faster.”
He was pelted from above, and the squawking of the birds seemed to take on a tone more akin to the sound of human laughter.
