WASHINGTON SPIN DIN

CONDI RICE, CLASSICAL PIANIST, PENS POP TUNE

It seems that Condi Rice, well known in Washington circles as a surprisingly skillful classical pianist, has written a highly confessional pop song, titled, “I can’t give you anything but hope, baby.”

Some who have heard the tune have been rapturous about the versatile Secretary of State’s compositional skills.

A lawyer-violinist who frequently plays chamber music with her, noted, “I knew she could play classical, but the fact that she could actually write a pop tune, even with the pressure she’s usually under – I mean, is there anything that multitalented woman can’t do, except stop smiling inappropriately?”

A more skeptical member of her amateur chamber music group commented, “When I heard it, it reminded me of something I’d heard before, but I’m not much of a fan of popular music, past or present, so I can’t quite place it. Given the overall level of pop music, feeling really out of it is part of what makes me feel genuinely proud of myself.”

When interviewed about the song, Ms. Rice confessed, “It’s just a little ditty I knocked off one evening when I returned from a trip to Iraq and realized that, maybe I can do a lot, but I just can’t seem to make peace in that annoyingly unresponsive nation.”

When asked if she felt the U. S. was still doing the right thing in Iraq, she was quick to flash her always winning smile and say, “Oh, yes. I know we are or I couldn’t even sleep at night. In fact, that’s the subject of my next song, which has a working title of “Come Together Over There.”
