Dennis Hastert, Former Wrestling Coach, Wrestles Foley To The Mat

For a while it looked as if Mark Foley’s page outrage would bring down even the Speaker of the House, Dennis Hastert, but never underestimate a former wrestling coach.

Sure, a majority of the population believes he knew about Foley before all the folderol became public. Democrats chanted for his resignation, all the better to control the House themselves. And even some wavering Republicans, particularly those in close election races, declined to be seen with him.

But Denny just reached right out and took the entire Foley folly in his mighty mitts and flipped it to the canvass. And the official ref, George Bush, agreed to appear with Hastert and proclaim the victory.

So, while it looked as if Foley had Denny in a surprise hammerlock, the Speaker slipped free and flipped him smack onto his back.

He did, however, hesitate to leap onto Foley and pin him down. Given the circumstances, he was concerned about appearances.
