Are George Bush and Alberto Gonzales Related?

Recent events have the grapevine humming about whether or not George Bush and Alberto Gonzales are related.

First Alberto Gonzales survived the scandal over what was widely perceived as the politically motivated firing of entirely innocent federal judges. Then came the uproar over the Attorney General’s rubberstamp approval of the Bush administration’s warrant-free wiretapping program.

Democratic senators and a smattering of Republican lawmakers, distressed by Gonzales stewardship of the Justice Department, have repeatedly called for his resignation. Yet President Bush has steadfastly defended him.

Initially, there was talk that Gonzales could be the President’s son, but eventually the closeness of the ages made that a biological unlikelihood.

Now, the discussion usually turns on whether they might be brothers but that brings up the thorny question of Hispanic fatherhood or motherhood.

Yet the rumors continue to fly.

Much to Jeb Bush’s disgruntlement, some are even hinting that Gonzales may be Bush’s favorite brother.
